Sit a scene in it, then choose the lighting

The original skies are palette-driven gradient domes rather than HDRIs: clear day, dusk, overcast, haze, golden hour, sunset and starry night. A modeled sky surrounds the scene without providing the same lighting information as an environment map. Choose the lights for your scene separately and inspect how the ground and buildings read together.

The ground is a tile grid

Grass, village green, dirt paths, ploughed fields, paving, dunes and cracked hardpan establish different places before any props arrive. Match the module and edge heights to the road kit you are using. A plan view is not enough: check joins from a low camera angle and test corners before covering a large area with repeated tiles.

Water is geometry you animate yourself

Ponds, streams, canals, quays and oasis banks provide the shapes around a waterline. The surface geometry is distinct from the shader or animation your scene applies to it. Keep ripple speed, reflections and transparency under your own scene controls rather than assuming the effect from a demonstration is baked into the GLB.

A gradient sky dome does not require an HDRI just to render its geometry. Lighting is a separate scene decision: choose lights or an environment map according to the materials and appearance you need.
Size it around the playable or visible area, then check the scale and module used by the terrain kit. Test the ground contact of buildings and trees before repeating tiles beyond the camera’s view.
Check the individual dome card. A gradient shell and a sky with modeled stars can have very different geometry counts; the range shown on this collection also includes terrain and water, so it is not a sky-only estimate.
Use matching pieces from a coordinated set and check their module dimensions and edge heights. The original oasis set includes straight, inside-corner and outside-corner banks for closing a shoreline; inspect the joins before extending the waterline.
