About Vice Beach

The pastel-and-neon cut of an 80s beach city for three.js and React Three Fiber: an Art Deco street-wall, terrazzo sidewalks under royal palms, a palm-median boulevard along the shore, a marina and a causeway with a bascule drawbridge. Every asset ships as a GLB with a typed R3F component, plus a combined vice-beach.glb catalog.

What's inside

  • Deco street-wall: three-bay, corner-curve and grand Deco hotels, a shopfront row, a cinema with its marquee, a streamline diner, a bank, walk-up apartments, a parking garage, a corner bodega, a laundromat strip and a motel wing
  • Waterfront: a waterfront condo tower, a downtown glass tower, a villa, a stilt house over water, a yacht club and a pastel lifeguard tower
  • Nightlife and lobby: a nightclub facade, bar counter, DJ booth, lit dancefloor, banquette booths, neon wall panels, a lobby reception desk and rattan seating
  • Roads, shore and marina: a two-lane strip, a palm-median boulevard, a causeway span and drawbridge, sand, wet sand, surf foam and shoreline tiles, a marina basin, a seawall and dock modules
  • Vehicles and vessels: five road cars including a police cruiser and two convertibles, a cigarette speedboat, a motor yacht, an airboat and a moored floatplane
  • Planting and props: royal, coconut and fan palms, bougainvillea, sun loungers, beach umbrellas, plastic flamingos, payphones, neon signs and four sky domes

Grid and palettes

Heights are 1 unit = 1 m with plan footprints on a 4 m module, and three connectable tile sets (strip, boulevard and shore) seam on that grid. Four palettes ship: Clear Day, Vice Sunset with its banded magenta sky, Squall with wet asphalt and a grey-green sea, and NIGHT, where every Deco facade is traced in neon tube.

Prebuilds and use cases

Eight decoratable set-pieces mount already dressed: an Ocean Drive block, a neon club corner, a marina berth, a lifeguard strip, a motel courtyard pool, the causeway drawbridge, a Deco shopfront block and a villa poolside. Decor stays as named nodes with empty slot anchors for your own props. Use it for retro racing and open-world games, synthwave music visuals, landing pages and nostalgic portfolio scenes.

Vice Beach FAQ

There are two road sets on the 4 m grid. The two-lane strip uses road_straight, road_corner, road_t and road_4way; every side street meeting the drive is a T. The palm-median boulevard uses its own straight, corner, median end and transition pieces, and road_boulevard_transition is what mates a boulevard run to the two-lane strip.
Vessels pivot at the keel with the waterline at 0.22, so they float correctly on a water_open tile at y=0 without a per-scene offset. Road vehicles pivot at the rear axle at ground level, and buildings and props pivot bottom-center on the grid, so everything seats on y=0.
Four glow families drive NIGHT: neon for facade tubes, hotel blades and signs, lamp for street-lamp globes, headlights and boat running lights, glass for window grids and storefronts, and glow for the pool light, lifeguard hut, bandshell and tower crown. Edit them in palettes.json to re-theme the whole strip.
ocean_drive_block, neon_club_corner, marina_berth, beach_lifeguard_strip, motel_courtyard_pool, causeway_drawbridge, deco_shopfront_block and villa_poolside. Each ships a static base, named decor nodes such as hero_car or festoon_lights that you can show, hide or swap, and empty slot anchors like slot_kerb_L for your own props.
Draco has a fixed per-file overhead, so compressing a small asset like a beach umbrella makes it bigger, not smaller. Individual assets are welded and pruned instead. The combined vice-beach.glb catalog is joined and Draco-compressed to about 460 kB, light enough to lazy-load the whole kit on a page.
Every asset is a web-optimized GLB (binary glTF) with Draco-compressed geometry — 104 files, 692 KB in total, about 132,431 triangles across the pack. Load them in plain three.js with GLTFLoader plus DRACOLoader — or in React Three Fiber with drei's useGLTF hook. The licensed download also includes typed React Three Fiber components for the pack.
