About Viking Fjord

A Viking village on the edge of a fjord for three.js and React Three Fiber. Every asset ships as a GLB with a typed R3F component, plus a combined viking-fjord.glb catalog for loading the whole kit at once.

What's inside

  • Halls and dwellings: a great hall, a turf longhouse, a turf dwelling, a boathouse naust and a pit house
  • Village structures: a stave church, a stabbur storehouse, a smithy forge, a fish drying rack and a palisade wall, corner and gate
  • Props: a cooking hearth, barrels, crates, a market stall, a village well, shield and weapon racks, hay bales, a log pile and palisade torches
  • Lore and landmarks: a runestone, a standing stone ring, a dragon prow post, rune name boards, wayposts and harbor marker posts
  • Ships and transport: a longship drakkar, a knarr cargo ship, a faering rowboat and an ox cart
  • Landscape: fjord turf, snow turf, rocky highland and slope tiles, open fjord water, shore straights and corners, a stream, cliffs, boulders, glacial erratics, spruce, birch, heather and ferns
  • Sky and effects: fjord day, midnight sun, misty dawn and aurora night sky domes, an aurora curtain and a hearth smoke plume

Grid and palettes

Heights are 1 unit = 1 m on a stylized 4 m module. Dirt roads (straight, corner, T and 4-way), shore pieces and the palisade set all snap on that grid, and the jetty and boardwalk planks mate end to end for quaysides. Four palettes ship: Clear Fjord Day, Midnight-Sun Gold, Misty Fjord Dawn and Aurora Fjord Night, where hearths, the forge, torches and the aurora carry the frame.

Prebuilds and use cases

Five decoratable set-pieces mount already dressed: a village square, a chieftain's hall, a harbor landing, a standing stones circle and a stave church yard. Decor stays as named nodes with empty slot anchors for your own props, such as a second longship at the harbor. The kit suits survival and colony-sim games, Norse adventure levels, history and education scenes, and atmospheric aurora backdrops.

Viking Fjord FAQ

palisade_wall, palisade_gate and palisade_corner share one cross-section on the 4 m module, so panels butt the gate with no step or gap. Lay panels end to end along x and turn with the corner piece: the four corners of an enclosure are the same piece at rotation-y 0, π/2, π and 3π/2. Rails and rakers always face inside.
Open water, shore straights and inside and outside shore corners all sit on the same 4 m grid, with the shoreline 1.1 m in from the land edge on every piece, so coasts mate with each other and with open water. stream_beck runs full-bleed along its length, and ground_slope_tile rises exactly 1.30 m edge to edge so terraced ground stacks predictably.
Hearths, the forge, torches, smoke-hole openings and the aurora curtain are painted in dedicated glow keys in palettes.json. Vertex color alone is albedo, so to make them glow, drive an emissive term from those keys in your renderer. With that in place, they carry the night scene while everything else drops back.
Vehicles are authored at about 0.65x metric, so a longship reads correctly beside a longhouse rather than dwarfing the village. Boats pivot at the waterline and the cart at its rear axle, while buildings and props pivot bottom-center on the grid.
village_square, chieftains_hall, harbor_landing, standing_stones and stave_church_yard. Each has a static base, named decor nodes and slot anchors such as slot_ship_2. The components load prebuilds from a prebuilds/ subfolder, so copy them to public/prebuilds/ and put every other GLB at the root of public/.
Every asset is a web-optimized GLB (binary glTF) with Draco-compressed geometry — 63 files, 434 KB in total, about 55,302 triangles across the pack. Load them in plain three.js with GLTFLoader plus DRACOLoader — or in React Three Fiber with drei's useGLTF hook. The licensed download also includes typed React Three Fiber components for the pack.
