About Nature & Wilderness

The Nature & Wilderness puts a whole outdoors in a box for three.js and React Three Fiber. Every asset is chamfered, contact-shaded and dressed down to lashings, growth rings and lichen, yet stays one geometry, one shared material and one draw call.

What's in the kit

  • Trees and undergrowth: oak, pine, a three-stem birch, a weeping willow and a blazing autumn maple over ferns, bracken, wildflowers, berry bushes and mushrooms
  • Rock and water: boulders, a towering cliff face, scree, a natural stone arch, a three-step waterfall, a creek, a pond and a lake you build from shore tiles
  • Cabins and camp: a lakeside log cabin with a dock, a ranger hut, a fire lookout, a canvas tent, a lean-to, a lit campfire, a cooking tripod and a bear locker
  • Wildlife and boats: a white-tailed buck, a red fox, a rabbit, a mallard and a grey heron, plus a canoe, a kayak and a rowboat
  • Atmosphere: mist, waterfall spray, campfire smoke, fireflies, clouds and day, golden-hour and night-aurora sky domes

Ground and lake tiles

Scale is 1 unit = 1 m, Y-up, +Z forward, on a 4 m grid. Land tiles sit at y = 0 with their walking surface near 0.20 m. Lay the lake and stream family at y = -0.18 and its banks meet the grass flush, with open water a bank's height below.

Five decoratable prebuilds, lakeside_campsite, forest_clearing, lakeside_cabin, waterfall_grotto and trailhead, ship finished but editable: hide any decor node through the show prop and mount your own props on slots.

Four seasons of color

palettes.json defines Spring (day), Autumn (golden hour), Winter (snow) and Night (campfire and aurora). The GLBs are baked in Spring and share one material you can tint at runtime. In the Night palette the flames, lantern, cabin windows, fireflies, aurora and foxfire mushrooms stay bright while the rest drops dark.

Use it for exploration and survival games, outdoor brand sites, travel and park maps, or a calm landscape behind a landing page.

Nature & Wilderness FAQ

Lay the land tiles at y = 0 and the water family (lake_open_water, lake_shore_straight, the inside and outside shore corners and river_stream) at y = -0.18. Their banks then meet the grass flush and the water surface sits near y = 0.125. Snap everything to the 4 m grid in 90° steps; lake_tile and pond are self-contained features that need no neighbors.
The canoe, kayak, rowboat, mallard_duck and lily_pad_patch are modeled on y = 0 at their float line. Place them about 2.5 cm below your water surface, so roughly y = 0.10 when the shore and open-water tiles are laid at y = -0.18. They are static meshes, so a gentle bob on a sine wave is yours to add.
The GLBs are baked in the Spring palette, and palettes.json lists every color key for Spring, Autumn, Winter and Night. The meshes carry no per-key tags, so key-by-key recoloring isn't possible from the GLBs alone. You can tint the shared material as a whole, and snow_tile plus the autumn maple help set a seasonal scene.
Each prebuild is a joined base plus named decor nodes mapped to real assets, such as tent, campfire or canoe, and empty slot_* anchors. Pass show={{ canoe: false }} to hide a node and slots={{ slot_second_tent: <MyTent /> }} to mount your own prop. The prebuild GLBs are Draco-compressed and range from about 0.5 to 1.6 MB.
The individual GLBs are uncompressed, and the largest are log_cabin at about 12.3 MB and cliff_face at about 11.3 MB. If you place many, run them through your own Draco or Meshopt step. The combined nature.glb is a single Draco-compressed lookbook mesh, handy for previews but not addressable per asset.
Every asset is a web-optimized GLB (binary glTF) with Draco-compressed geometry — 77 files, 7.4 MB in total, about 1,211,680 triangles across the pack. Load them in plain three.js with GLTFLoader plus DRACOLoader — or in React Three Fiber with drei's useGLTF hook. The licensed download also includes typed React Three Fiber components for the pack.
