About Edo Village — Feudal Japan Kit

The Edo Village Feudal Japan Kit builds a whole Edo-period village for three.js and React Three Fiber. A vermilion torii frames a Shinto shrine, a multi-tier pagoda rises over tiled roofs, and a lane of machiya townhouses hung with noren curtains leads to a lantern-strung festival market.

What's in the kit

  • Shrines and temples: torii gates, a great torii, a Shinto shrine, worship hall, chozuya pavilion, bell tower, komainu pair and the multi-tier pagoda
  • Village buildings: machiya and nagaya townhouses, a merchant shop, noodle shop, teahouse, kura storehouse and a thatched minka farmhouse
  • Gardens and water: raked gravel, moss and paddy tiles, a koi pond with an arched bridge, a garden stream, a waterfall, a karesansui centerpiece, stepping stones and a shishi-odoshi
  • Trees and plants: sakura, maple, pine, shidare willow, bamboo, wisteria trellis, hydrangea and bonsai
  • Street life: stone and paper lanterns, yatai food stalls, sake barrels, nobori banners, festival garlands, a taiko drum, a handcart, ox-cart and palanquin

Roofs are modeled as real Japanese roofs: curved kawara tile with onigawara ridge-ends, hinoki-bark shrine roofs with chigi and katsuogi, copper temple roofs and a steep thatch.

Palettes

Four vertex-color palettes ship in palettes.json: Clear Spring Day, Sakura Sunset, Misty Autumn Dawn and Lantern-lit Festival Night. At night, stone lanterns and shrine braziers burn, red chōchin glow, shoji paper lights from behind every lattice, and the koi pond picks up a cool moon glint.

Building with it

Heights are 1 unit = 1 m, footprints follow a 4 m grid, and architecture sits at about 70 percent real scale. Stone-paved lanes connect through straight, corner, T and 4-way tiles. Six decoratable set-pieces, including shrine_courtyard, zen_garden and festival_market_row, ship as a baked base, named decor nodes and slot anchors. Each asset has a typed R3F component, alongside a combined catalog GLB.

It suits samurai and village games, cultural and travel storytelling, tea and food brand sites, and calm garden scenes.

Edo Village — Feudal Japan Kit FAQ

The road_stone_* tiles form a connectable set on the 4 m grid with fixed seams. Where a side lane meets the main street, use the T junction, whose closed edge carries an unbroken stone kerb; crossings use the 4-way. The stepping_stone_tile is a decorative garden path that reads at any rotation but does not join the lane network.
No. The koi pond is a framed set-piece with no shore set, so it never tiles as an open expanse. For running water, use the garden_stream_tile or the waterfall_cascade, and cross the pond with the arched bridge, which cambers about 0.6 m above the water.
Lantern-lit Festival Night brightens the flame key in stone lanterns and shrine braziers, the warm lamp and red lanternRed chōchin, and the paper key behind every shoji lattice. A cool moon glint appears on the koi pond and stream. The festival_market_row set-piece is built to show this palette off.
The multi-tier pagoda is the tallest structure at around 11 m, with architecture authored at roughly 70 percent real scale. The great torii clears every roofline, stone lanterns stay below the eaves, and sakura and pine clear the tiled roofs, so mixed pieces keep a believable skyline without manual rescaling.
The kit totals about 1.38M triangles and the pagoda accounts for roughly 175k of them. The combined edo-village.glb catalog is about 7 MB after Draco compression. On a page that must stay light, load only the per-asset GLBs you need rather than the full catalog.
Every asset is a web-optimized GLB (binary glTF) with Draco-compressed geometry — 75 files, 7.9 MB in total, about 1,379,997 triangles across the pack. Load them in plain three.js with GLTFLoader plus DRACOLoader — or in React Three Fiber with drei's useGLTF hook. The licensed download also includes typed React Three Fiber components for the pack.
