The signature dwelling of the fjord: a bow-sided longhouse of weathered planks leaning in under a deep sod roof that sags between its verges — courses lapping, shaggy with tussocks at the crown, cut back to bare earth along the eave. A sill, a wale and the wall plate follow the swell of the walls, a runed lintel and forged strap hinges dress the plank door, amber openings glow at gable and flank, and a lean-to woodstore rests its rafters on the hall's own wall plate at the far gable with the winter's split logs stacked beneath.
