The dragon-ship herself, the hero of the fjord: a lapstrake hull whose sheer sweeps in one unbroken curve from a low waist up to a carved dragon prow and a scrolled stern post, three broad strakes lapping down her tarred topsides over a dark boot-top, twelve painted shields with iron rims slung along the gunwale, oar-ports open below them, a pair of oars shipped inboard across four thwarts with the rowers’ sea-chests stowed beside them, a steering oar and tiller on the starboard quarter, and a red-striped wool sail bent to the yard under a lit masthead lantern.
