Signal Distant
The distant signal that warns of the stop signal ahead: a lattice post carrying the fishtailed yellow arm with its black chevron, held ON — horizontal, at caution — so the driver is already shutting off. Its spectacle plate swings the yellow glass in front of the lamp with the green waiting above it, and the balance weight sits at the foot on its lever. Plant it a braking distance out from the semaphore and the two of them tell a story.
