Gantry Crane

The thing the goods yard was missing: a rail-mounted travelling gantry striding over the sidings on lattice legs, a riveted box girder across the top, a trolley parked off-centre on the runway and the hook block hanging on its chain over whatever is being lifted. Its own rails and bogies are under it, a floodlight burns under the girder all night, and the hazard stripes are worn off the feet.
