Culvert
Where the line crosses a stream too small to be worth a bridge: a stone culvert mouth built into the toe of the embankment, its arch ring proud of a coursed headwall, wing walls stepping down on both sides to hold the earth back, an iron grille across the mouth with a branch lodged against it, and the trickle running out over a paved cill between kerbstones. The piece that makes an embankment look built rather than heaped.
