Pirogue
The free tier's boat and the oldest shape on the water: a flat-bottomed Cajun pirogue, narrow enough to pole through a stand of cypress knees. Built as a real boat inside and out — a raked stem and sternpost, gunwale caps and an inwale that follow the sheer, lapped plank seams down the topsides, seven sawn ribs standing proud of the liner, a planked floor, two thwarts on knees, bow and stern decks, and the push-pole stowed along the thwarts with its duckbill foot. A paddle, a bailing can and a coil of line lie in the bilge. Built with a proper liner and a light interior, so you can see into it the way you are meant to.
