Airboat
The hero vehicle: a flat-bottomed airboat on the channel — a lofted skiff hull with a rubbed-pale keel shoe, a hard chine batten and a rubbing strake that follows the sheer, a planked sole, a belt-driven V8 with its valve covers and headers standing in the open, a welded helm seat with the rudder sticks on real bellcranks and push-rods running aft to the rudder vanes, and a deep basket prop guard — five hoops on a spherical envelope, stringers, a heavy rim and a bar grid over the face the driver sits behind — carrying the lamp that lights the water at NIGHT. The four-blade wooden prop is twisted root to tip and is a real spinning part in the demo, exporting as one piece of the boat exactly as a buyer expects.
