Basking Alligator
The bayou's signature creature and the pack's most-built model: a bull gator hauled out on the mud with his belly flat on the deck and all four legs sprawled the way a basking gator's actually are — upper limb, elbow, lower limb, splayed clawed foot. A real body plan rather than a taper: broad flat skull with a stepped brow, a short thick neck, a barrel widest at the shoulder, and a tail that compresses laterally into a sculling blade. Double rows of keeled osteoderms run the back and merge into one caudal crest; the jaw stands open on seated, graduated teeth; the eyes ride up on their orbital turrets with the nostrils on a boss at the snout tip, which is the whole read of a gator at the waterline. Lay it on any bank, ramp or half-sunk log.
