Firefly Swarm
THE NIGHT signature, and every one of them is a real insect rather than a dot: a swarm of modelled fireflies lifting off the marsh in a slow column, each with a three-segment glowing abdomen, thorax, head, brass eyes, antennae, six legs and veined spread wings. Densest in the grass at the bottom and thinning as it climbs. ONLY the abdomen carries the firefly key, so at NIGHT each one reads as a dark beetle behind a hot tail-light instead of a glowing blob — which is what a firefly actually looks like. Drop it over any deck, bank or stretch of water; at NIGHT it is the first thing anyone sees.
