The farm plaustrum come down off the via: a planked bed on two sole beams over four solid tripartite wheels (three dowelled boards, lunate openings, battens pinned with trenails, iron tyres), stake-and-rail sides with iron straps, and a load of three amphorae bedded in straw and lashed down, grain sacks and a basket of pomegranates at the tail. The pole drops from the fore-carriage hounds to a carved neck yoke set down on the road, its two bows unpinned and left beside it.
