Glossy black plumage with shaggy throat hackles and a hint of purple gloss on the shoulder, a heavy two-part beak with nostril bristles, folded wings whose five primaries step back to their tips, a seven-feather tail, and two scaled feet whose toes and hind claw grip right over the front edge of a weathered perch board.
