The mobile-base hero, still running: a cab and box body sat level on big off-road tyres, the box armoured in lapped steel plates of mismatched scrap with rows of rivets and a firing slit cut the length of each flank behind welded mesh, a mesh-grilled windscreen under a propped steel visor with a dark cab behind it, a spiked plough welded to a heavy bumper, twin rear doors on hinge knuckles with a lock bar and a spare tyre roped on, an exhaust stack up the cab corner, and a roof rack of strapped jerrycans beside a hatch with a ring pull.
