The belt insert for the checkout counter: an aluminium bed with a black rubber belt of 5 cm slats catching the light, chrome end rollers at both ends, stainless side guard rails with screw heads, and a photo-eye pair at the scanner end that stops the belt. One slat carries a faded sticker someone never peeled off.
