The free tier’s humble hauler: a two-wheeled market cart — a box of chamfered weathered boards on corner posts under a capping rail, iron straps riveted round every corner, riding an iron axle on chocks between two spoked wheels with turned hubs, segmented felloes and iron tyres; long shafts rise to a hand-worn grip, an A-pair prop leg holds it level, and it is bedded with straw under pumpkins, gourds, apples and a tied burlap sack, one apple jolted off onto the ground.
