Sixteen monolithic stone winders climb one full turn and exactly one 3 m storey around a lathe-turned newel to a three-sector arrival landing, each tread polished hollow down the line a boot actually takes on the outside of the curve — the timber handline has rotted clean away across four of them and been replaced with a lashed rope drooping post to post, and the newel is black with torch soot at head height where every torch carried up has smoked against it.
