The drain has somewhere to go at last: a hewn runnel cut edge to edge along the tile, kerbed in heavy chamfered slabs that nose out over the water, half of it decked in two iron grate sections in the same frame-and-bars ironwork as the room floor's drain. A silt bar has built up on the downstream side and stands proud of the surface, choking the flow back to a trickle, and a soaked rag is snagged on the last grate bar and trails down into the water. Slime creeps the wall at the wet line and the kerb top where it is never dry, and three points of it glow cursed-green on the surface once the torches go out.
